Musicophilia by oliver sacks6/12/2023 Musicophilia - a tractate on musical brain Yet far more frequently, music goes right: Sacks describes how music can animate people with Parkinson’s disease who cannot otherwise move, give words to stroke patients who cannot otherwise speak, and calm and organize people whose memories are ravaged by Alzheimer’s or amnesia.Music is irresistible, haunting, and unforgettable, and in Musicophilia, Oliver Sacks tells us why. He explores how catchy tunes can subject us to hours of mental replay, and how a surprising number of people acquire nonstop musical hallucinations that assault them night and day. In Musicophilia, he examines the powers of music through the individual experiences of patients, musicians, and everyday people. Oliver Sacks’s compassionate, compelling tales of people struggling to adapt to different neurological conditions have fundamentally changed the way we think of our own brains, and of the human experience. Indeed, music occupies more areas of our brain than language does - humans are a musical species. But the power of music goes much, much further. It can lift us out of depression when nothing else can. It can persuade us to buy something, or remind us of our first date. Music can move us to the heights or depths of emotion.

The structure of the poems was interesting, as here the poet often used the frames of rhymes, but not above the message and not on the account of the wonderful enchanting drift. Some of the events were related to the story of Peter, whom is a chivalrous character, a savior that defeated the forces of darkness. There was something divine and alleviating in them, perhaps even a tinge of novelty and romanticism alluding to the overall message of universal love. I really enjoyed the light atmosphere in some of the euphoric poems. It means that the poet has the ability to dictate the mood apart from the wonderful rich description abound. The way the reader was swinging in moods was fantastic, as some poems were heavy whereas others were light and blithe. Many of the poems were intuitive and somewhat mysterious, yet not without piety. It felt like being inside a fairy tale, or inside a mythological journey, a fact which conveyed the reader with an epic and divine tang of eternity. As a reader I was fascinated by the magical reality which the poet has created throughout the entire book. This enchanting poetry collection belongs to the genre of Fantasy and Fairyland.

They were split up after and incident and it isn’t for many years that they cross paths again. But, also they know that sometimes there is a hefty price to be paid in their type of lifestyle. They both come from very powerful families and they both know that with their type of family sacrifices are expected and expectations are to be met. Rory and Hunter have been in each other’s lives since kindergarten. I don’t think there has ever been a couple that is more perfect for each other whether they want to admit it or not. This is the story of Hunter and Aurora and these two are pure fire!!! You are going to fall so hard and fast for them which is a little odd for me to do but, it happened. I’m just going to go ahead and tell you that this book is so amazing you will not be putting it down once you have started it.

The long song by andrea levy summary6/11/2023 “The Long Song,” an adaptation of Andrea Levy’s 2010 novel, not only centers a very specific Black character and experience, but deliberately dares any skittish viewers expecting something quite different to look away. Outside of something like Andrew Davies’ 2019 “Sanditon” adaptation, which cast Crystal Clarke as a Jane Austen character born in the West Indies, there really haven’t been any PBS Masterpiece dramas that spotlight Black characters, let alone have them steer the entire series. That the tragic heroine of this story is Black slave July ( Tamara Lawrance) rather than her corseted white mistress - played by period drama veteran Hayley Atwell, no less - immediately marks “The Long Song” as a very different kind of Masterpiece series. |
